Our guide below will get you information about Phantom of the Opera West End, and will show you how to get discounted tickets.
About the Show
From the creative mind behind the hit productions, ‘The Producers’, ‘Blazing Saddles’ and ‘Spaceballs’, comes to life a classic - ‘Young Frankenstein’. The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award winner, Mel Brooks is well known throughout the Hollywood and Broadway industry for his witty humor and comic parodies.
In this production, Mel Brooks works in collaboration with five-time Tony Award winner, Broadway director, and choreographer, Susan Stroman. Together, the two have bought this movie alive on stage, in an all-dancing, all-singing musical comedy. Considered by Mel Brooks himself as the best movie he ever made, you definitely do not want to miss this on-stage adaptation of one of the most popular fictional characters in the world.
The Story
This musical comedy is based on the 1974 film of the same name, which was written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder, which in turn is a parody of Mary Shelley’s world famous novel, ‘Frankenstein’.
The story follows the doings and actions of a highly respected brain surgeon and professor in New York, Frederick Frankenstein, who inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his madcap but genius grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein. Torn between deciding whether to stay back in New York and keep away from his family’s legacy or to go back to Transylvania and follow his grandfather’s footsteps of conducting ‘scientific experiments’, Frederick heads back home.
Back in Transylvania, armed with a hunchback lab assistant, Igor, and a bodacious blonde, Inga, Frederick decides to continue his grandfather’s experiments and tries to bring a dead man back to life. As expected, things go horribly wrong and hilarity ensues as the three try to salvage the situation.
Performance
The musical has been well received by audiences around the globe, winning a Broadway.com award for ‘Favorite New Broadway Musical’. The production has also received four and five star ratings from Whatsonstage, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and the London Evening Standard.
Awards
‘Young Frankenstein’ has been nominated for several awards including the Tony Award for ‘Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical’ and ‘Best Scenic Design of a Musical’. The show was also nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Musical Theater Album’ category. It won the Outer Critics Circle Award in 2008 for ‘Best Musical’.
