About the Show
The Gruffalo is directed by Olivia Jacobs, with music and lyrics by Job Fiber, Robin Price, and Andy Shaw. The talented cast brings forth the emotions and characters of the animals vividly that even three-year-olds can follow the play! The cast includes Rebecca Newman as the Mouse, Elliot Rodriguez as The Gruffalo, and Jake Addley as Predator. It is a feat to bring to life the iconic visuals and characters that are familiar in a book to the stage, and contributing towards that effort is designer Isla Shaw and lighting designer James Whiteside, with choreography by Morag Cross.
The Story
The Gruffalo is the story of how the meek turn mighty! This inspiring and witty story translates beautifully onto the stage in this adaptation of the book. The musical narrates the story of the tiny mouse which goes into the forest seeking hazelnuts. It is encountered by terrifying predators, who all invite the mouse to their homes, as a ploy to eat it! These predators include a sly Fox, an old Owl, and a spirited Snake. However, the smart Mouse declines their offer and instead tells them the story of its friend, ‘The Gruffalo’ and how it is going to dinner with him.
The Gruffalo is a figment of the imagination of the Mouse and is a fantasy creature, a mix of a Grizzly Bear and a Buffalo. Mouse tells the predators about how they are the favourite food of the Gruffalo. They let Mouse go, lest the monster eats them up! But lo and behold, Mouse meets the Gruffalo! Find out if the Gruffalo is real and what he does to Mouse in the musical.
