MCC Theater Announces 33rd Season

Mark your calendars! MCC Theater, home to the Newman Mills Theater and the Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater, has announced five new productions for its 33rd season. Helmed by Artistic Directors Bob LuPone, Bernie Telsey, Will Cantler, and Executive Director Blake West, MCC produces “bold, risk-taking works from the most vital voices working in theater today.”

“Our new home has already enriched the experience of our friends, neighbors, and audience. This season ahead is a banquet and we will surprise you all with the ways we set the table,” said Will Cantler, Co-Artistic Director of MCC Theater, in a statement.

THE WRONG MAN
The Wrong Man is a new musical by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ross Golan that reunites Hamilton’s Tony Award-winning director Thomas Kail & three-time Tony Award-winning orchestrator Alex Lacamoire. Set in Reno, Nevada, The Wrong Man is the story of Duran, a man just scraping by who is framed for a murder he didn’t commit, who meets the wrong woman in the wrong place at the wrong time.

SEARED
Written by Theresa Rebeck (Bernhardt/Hamlet) and directed by Tony nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (MCC’s Hand To God), Seared follows Harry, a brilliant and hot-headed chef, who finds himself on the cusp of fame — if it weren’t for his stubbornness in the face of capitalizing on art. Seared will feature a working onstage kitchen.

ALL THE NATALIE PORTMANS
All The Natalie Portmans follows Keyonna, a 16-year-old with a taste for the fantastic and the dramatic, who finds herself on the brink of eviction with her brother Samuel. Billed as “too smart, too gay, and too lonely to fit in”, Keyonna finds refuge in writing to Natalie Portman as her most iconic characters onscreen — and finds them speaking back to her. Written by C.A. Johnson and directed by Kate Whoriskey (Sweat), All The Natalie Portmans makes Keyonna finally confront her sorrows, and find beauty within.

NOLLYWOOD DREAMS
Set in 1990s Lagos, Nigeria, as the Nollywood film industry grows and gains fame, Nollywood Dreams follows Ayamma, a girl dreaming of a life onscreen, while working at her parents’ travel agency. When Ayamma gets an audition for a new movie by Nigeria’s most notable director, she finds sparks flying, tensions brewing, and what it means to dream big.  Jocelyn Bioh (MCC’s School Girls…, “She’s Gotta Have It”) returns with the new romantic comedy directed by Saheem Ali (Sugar in our Wounds, Fireflies).

PERRY STREET
A leisurely, drama free life gets interrupted in Lucy Thurber’s (MCC’s Transfers) new play Perry Street. While parents Phil and Maggie enjoy their luxurious life in their West Village brownstone, they find feathers ruffled when their daughter comes home from Brown with a new girlfriend. In the vein of great American family dramas, Perry Street explores family, class, and sex, and asks what you’re willing to give up for the people and things you want the most? Perry Street is directed by Thomas Sadoski (“The Newsroom”).
