Isaac Mizrahi, the charismatic Brooklyn-born fashion designer, singer, and storyteller will appear in his solo show I&ME for a special one-night engagement on March 1, ahead of a national tour and release of his memoir I.M. The premiere will be at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, New Jersey.
I&ME, a cabaret-style show, will include stories about Mizrahi’s background growing up gay in a small Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn and climbing the rungs of the fashion world, as well as songs and a humorous segment with audience participation. The lighthearted, comical show is also a meaningful look at Mizrahi’s upbringing through the icon’s eyes. He will be joined by the Ben Walter Jazz Quartet, a combo that has appeared with Mizrahi in cabaret shows in New York City and around the country in recent years. Mizrahi has appeared in solo shows at Café Carlyle various times over the past year, most recently in October 2018, where he performed hits from Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, and Cat Stevens.
Mizrahi, a current judge on Project Runway: All-Stars and a renowned fashion designer, has long lent his talents to the entertainment industry. He recorded the creation of his Fall 1994 collection in a documentary entitled Unzipped, which won an award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1995. He also hosted his own television talk show called The Isaac Mizrahi Show for seven years.
Following its premiere in New Jersey, I&ME will journey across the United States and Canada in March, stopping in Toronto, Danforth Music Hall (March 4); Boston, Wilbur Theatre (March 5); Chicago, Thalia theatre (March 6); Vancouver, Rio Theatre (March 18); Seattle, Neptune theater (March 19); Portland, Revolution Hall (March 20); and San Francisco, Regency Ballroom (March 22).
