The Band

theatre royal haymarket london - the band

The Band is a jukebox musical featuring the songs of popular British pop group ‘Take That’. The musical first premiered at the Manchester Opera House in September 2017. Post the premiere, the company began touring the rest of the UK and Ireland with performances scheduled till March 2019. The show is officially the fastest selling musical theatre tour of all time! The West End production, scheduled for a limited Christmas run, premiered on 1st December 2018 with the closing night set for 12th January 2019.

What sets The Band apart from your run of the mill musical production is how the cast came together. The show was cast via a reality show (Let It Shine) and featured five talented stars that headlined the original show including Rachel Lumberg, Alison Fitzjohn, Jayne McKenna, Emily Joyce, and Rachelle Diedericks. The show has been written by Tim Firth and directed by Kim Gavin and Jack Ryder. The costumes have been designed by Jon Bauson with Patrick Woodroffe handling lighting design. Marc Frankum is the casting director with hair design by Leon Downing.

The Story

The Band is a special story about the power of friendship and how it defines us. The tale begins in 1992 and the city is Manchester. The show focuses on the journey of five 16-year old girls. Follow along as this group of girls goes on an emotional rollercoaster which ends with a reunion after 25 years of staying apart and not keeping in touch. The agenda for the reunion is simple - fulfilling their teenage dream of meeting the boy band who defined their growing up years and pretty much became the soundtrack of their life. Groove along to the spectacular music of Take That, one of Britain’s most successful boyband of all time. Some of the songs featured include Back for Good, A Million Love Songs, Never Forget, Greatest Day, Relight My Fire, The Flood, Shine & Rule the World.

  • You can bring access dogs to the venue but they are not allowed inside the theatre. However, there’s dedicated staff available to care for the dogs during the show.
  • If you need to book tickets for disabled patrons and those with access needs, please directly call the theatre box office from Monday to Saturday between 10 AM and 7.30 PM.
